Responsibilities Include

This position is part-time, 2 days per week and is primarily located in the Upper Keys.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) position is a sensitive position with the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County. This is advanced, specialized, and highly responsible work providing care and preforming certain delegated diagnostic and medical acts within established protocols at the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County. The APRN in this position works under the direct supervision of the Medical Executive Director providing direct client services, and fulfilling Medicaid, Title X, and DOH-Monroe standard operating procedure (SOP) requirements, conforming within national standards of care. Provides required documentation and review in the electronic health record (EHR). The incumbent is expected to provide high quality customer service and clinical excellence while providing services to our Ryan White, Hepatitis, Immunization, Family Planning, PrEP, STD, and TB program clients at all Monroe County clinics. Must be willing and able to travel to all clinical sites as needed. In addition, the incumbent will play a role in the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) program ensuring clinic HRSA Work Plan grant deliverables are met or exceeded. Specific duties and responsibilities for this position:

  • Manages care of adult patients infected with HIV, Hepatitis, and/or TB.
  • Provides Family Planning services in Monroe County Health Department
  • Compiles and evaluates medical histories.
  • Performs complete physical of clients.
  • Assesses patients and develops a treatment plan.
  • Monitors and modifies care plans on an ongoing basis.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and procedures and specialty consults; interprets same and uses to develop treatment plans.
  • Observers and differentiates between signs and symptoms associated with normal aging and those indicative of pathologic changes.
  • Plans and conducts family, patient, and health education by counseling and fostering inclusion of the educational concepts into all phases of the health care provided.
  • Collects and collates data as required by grants and/or for quality improvement.
  • As a state employee, in a County Health Department, incumbent will participate in disaster preparedness and/or recovery activities.
  • Preforms related work as required, including performance of additional interpreter duties, consistent with skill level, and as needed.
  • Manage care and treatment for walk-in patients infected with STD s.
  • Complete prior authorizations and refills for other providers when they are not available.
  • Travels to the Key West, Marathon, and Tavernier clinic as needed to provide care to clients located near that DOH clinic site in order to reduce transportation costs.

    Requirements

    Certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) in accordance with Florida Statute 464, a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing and four years of professional nursing experience, two years of which must have been in a APRN capacity.

    Valid Florida driver s license and reliable transportation are required.

    Current American Heart Association (AHA) Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.

    Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours in the event of a disaster or as needed.

    EMERGENCY DUTY: Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat thereof, man-made or natural.
